WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Back on the mat for the first time since December 10, the Oswego State wrestling team suffered a pair of closely contested dual meet losses at the NY/PA Duals hosted by Lycoming on Saturday.
The day began with a 25-18 loss to the host school and ended with a 23-20 loss to King's College.
In the opener,
Cameron Mills (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.) led the Lakers with a pin in just 1:13 of Tyler Cunningham at 184 points.
The Lakers added four other victories during the course of the dual.
Omar Santiago (Jr. Huntington, N.Y.) cruised to an 8-2 victory at 133 pounds and
Nick Rodgers (Fr., Owego, N.Y.) battled his way to a 3-0 victory at 157 pounds.
It was down to the final buzzer at 149 pounds, where
Brandon Heffernan (Sr., Martville, N.Y.) topped Lucas Wisniewski 4-3. At heavyweight,
Kyle Sheridan (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) needed overtime to earn a 3-1 win over Samuel Batchelor.
The difference in the dual proved to be the three pins by the Warriors on their home mat.
The night cap was an even closer contest, but it was the Monarchs claiming the final match to edge their way to a three-point win in their home state.
Oswego took an early 10-6 lead when Santiago grabbed a 12-2 win and
Brad Mayville (Fr., Ontario, N.Y.) pinned Nathaniel Seals in just 47 seconds.
King's College cut the lead to 10-9 with a narrow 10-8 win by Christian Mazzocchi over Heffernan at 149 pounds.
The Lakers bounced back with a 10-0 win at 157 by Rodgers, but the tide turned.
The Monarchs moved into the lead with a 6-2 win at 165 pounds, followed by a pin and then an 8-7 victory by Michael Reilly over Mills at 184 pounds.
The Lakers picked up a forfeit at 197 pounds though, tying the match at 30.
At heavyweight, Sheridan battled to the end, but fell short in a 2-0 decision to Brendan Dwyer to end the dual with King's College in front.
The Lakers will be back in Williamsport next weekend for the Budd Whitehill Duals on Friday and Saturday.
