BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's tennis team (3-8) was not able to unseat top-seeded New Paltz (8-1) in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships, as the Hawks advanced with a 5-0 win at Binghamton Tennis Center on Friday.
Three 8-1 wins in doubles play set the tone for the match, as the Lakers would need to capture five out of six singles matches to emerge victorious. New Paltz's Montana Wilson defeated junior
Nicole Leader (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) at the first flight, 6-1, 6-0.
A 6-0, 6-1 win for Laura Tierney over Oswego State's
Haley Miller (So., Springwater, N.Y.) at fifth singles sealed the win for the Hawks, and the remaining matches were brought to a halt.
The Lakers will now face Brockport in the consolation bracket at 8 a.m. tomorrow, as the Golden Eagles were defeated 5-0 by Oneonta. The Golden Eagles defeated the Lakers 8-1 on Sept. 24.
