OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's tennis team (3-11) picked up two singles wins against Fredonia (8-5) on Sunday at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships, but was swept in doubles play in a 5-2 loss.
The Lakers finished eighth place in the SUNYAC Tournament, and the Blue Devils take seventh with the victory.
Each doubles match was very close, with the closest of the day coming at the third flight when
Kelly Corwin (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) and
Olivia Knierman (So., Fulton, N.Y.) narrowly lost, 8-6, to Stephanie Thompson and Jess Johnston.
Corwin lost the first set of her singles match, 6-1, but battled back to control the next two and record 6-2 triumphs in each for the win. Junior
Nicole Leader (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) registered the other win for the Lakers at first singles with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 result.
Oswego State is back in action on Tuesday, as it hosts Elmira at 3:30 p.m. in the last match of the fall.
