Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team swept through Friday night's challenges against Alfred State and Elmira College in the opening round of the Oswego Fall Classic. With the two victories, the Lakers improve to 9-6 on the season and are currently riding a four-game win streak.
MATCH ONE BOX SCORE
In its opening match with Alfred State, Oswego cruised to a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-15, 25-16).
Emma Moriarty led the way with a match-high eight kills while adding five digs and a block.
Rachel Ruggaber had a match-high 14 digs while
Sabrina Sutton also hit the double-digit mark, obtaining 10 digs. Sutton also had four kills as did
Meaghan Roefs.
Stephanie Bailey killed six attempts for the second-most of any player in the contest.
Lauren Edwards assisted on 25 opportunities for the Lakers.
MATCH TWO BOX SCORE
The final match going at the end of the night was a tight battle between Elmira and Oswego. After the Lakers took the first two sets, the Soaring Eagles fought back to knot the match up at 2-2. Oswego would not be denied, however, protecting its home court with a 3-2 win (25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 25-27, 15-12).
Megan Russell paced the Lakers in kills with 15 and blocks with 10 while Bailey again recorded the second-most kills for the squad (10). Bailey also chipped in six blocks.
Roefs aided in the blocking effort, stop one on her own while assisting on nine others.
Oswego returns to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday as it takes on Geneseo, who also went 2-0 on Friday night.
