Cortland, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team dropped both of its matches on Saturday in Cortland during SUNAY Pool Play. On the season, the Lakers fall to 11-9 on the year and 0-3 in conference competition.
MATCH ONE BOX SCORE
Oswego took on the Red Dragons of Oneonta in an early morning match, as the Red Dragons beat the Lakers in straight sets. Oneonta won each of the three games by a score of 25-23.
Three Lakers had double digit digs in the contest, led by
Sabrina Sutton's 15 which was a match-high. Following right behind Sutton was
Rachel Ruggaber with 14 and
Meaghan Puff with 12. Sutton also aided with six kills in the match
Megan Russell had a match-high 12 kills along with four assists on blocks.
Stephanie Bailey gave the Lakers great defense with five total blocks (3 solo, 2 assists) along with the second-most kills (8) for Oswego.
Lauren Edwards also had a match-high in assists, setting up her teammates for kills on 20 attempts.
MATCH TWO BOX SCORE
In its final match of the weekend, Oswego faced SUNY Potsdam in the early afternoon. Potsdam took the first set 25-22 but the Lakers battled right back with a convincing 25-16 win in the second set. The Bears won the third and fourth sets 25-18, 25-14 to earn the victory.
Bailey led Oswego in blocks again with three assists while also pacing the Lakers with 11 kills. Edwards and Champitto shared the assisting load in the second match, with Edwards tallying 15 while Champitto earned 13.
For a second-straight contest, three Lakers earned double digits digs. Sutton missed her first match total by one, finishing with 14. Edwards dug 13 Potsdam attempts while Ruggaber collected 10.
Oswego will try to get back to its winning ways at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when Keuka College comes to campus for a match in Max Ziel Gymnasium.
