Williamsport, Pa. – The Oswego State wrestling team split its matches on the final day of the Budd Whitehill Division III National Duals hosted by Lycoming College on Saturday. In its first match of the day, Oswego downed Alfred State 33-18. Its second matchup on Saturday was with Case Western Reserve, who defeated the Lakers 28-13. With the loss, Oswego falls to 1-7 on the season.
Against Alfred State, Oswego won at each of the following weight classes: 125, 133, 141, 149, 165 and 184.
Jacob Yankloski won by fall just 59 seconds into his match at 125.
Quamaine Thomas had the most dominating victory of the day, a 17-0 technical fall at 133.
Tomas Garcia dropped his opponent in 2:54 at 141, while 149-pounder
Abubakarr Sow also won by fall, his in just 1:37.
Oswego's final two victors in the opening match was
David Hall with a 13-2 major decision at 165 and
Scott Bova by fall (1:42) at 184. Bova is the reigning ECWC Wrestler of the Week for his efforts at the N.Y./Pa. Duals last weekend.
Bova won by forfeit in the matchup with Case Western Reserve while Thomas and Hall were the other Lakers able to earn their second wins of the day. Thomas took down Jeff Gould by 7-3 decision while Hall defeated Brian Snyder by a 10-2 major decision.
Oswego will be in Williamsport, Pa. again at 10 a.m. next Saturday as Lycoming hosts the ECWC Championships.
