Volleyball's Win Streak Stopped at Five

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball had its five-match win streak snapped on Saturday during SUNYAC Pool Play at Cortland. Oswego opened the day with a tough 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-8) loss to Oneonta before losing the nightcap 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) to the host Red Dragons.
With the split, the Lakers are now 13-12 on the year and 3-3 in conference action.

MATCH ONE – Oneonta 3, Oswego 2:

After dropping the first set 25-23, Oswego was able to gather some momentum, taking control of the match with wins in the second and third sets. Oneonta countered, however, capturing the final two sets to steal a victory.

Three Lakers finished in double digits for kills in the match, with senior Steph Bailey leading the way with 11. Following right behind the senior was Hannah Dahlgren and Jessica Long, each collecting 10 kills.

Olivia Zimmerman and Lauren Edwards shared the setting duty in the contest, collecting 21 and 18 assists, respectively.

On defense, Bailey tied with teammate Kelsey Dillon in blocks, helping on two block assists apiece. Also on the defensive side, Rachel Ruggaber paced the team with 22 digs while Kim Cassa had the second-most with 19.

MATCH TWO – Cortland 3, Oswego 0:

In the second match of the day, Oswego played a tight first set but fell 25-21. Cortland carried the win into the next two sets to take both for the win.
Long was again among the team leaders in kills, tying with Meaghan Roefs with seven. Dillon and Emma Moriarty each chipped in four kills.

Edwards and Zimmerman again split the aiding efforts, assisting on 11 and 10 points, respectively.  

Bailey led the Lakers with five blocks on one solo and four assists while Ruggaber dug a team-best 13 attacks.  

Oswego will be back on the court at 6 p.m. on Friday when it plays its first match of the Hartwick College Invitational against St. Lawrence University.
