Volleyball Finishes 3-1 at Hartwick Invite

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team wrapped up play at the Hartwick College/Holiday Inn Invitational with a win and a loss on Saturday. In its morning match, the Lakers beat the host Hawks 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-15) before losing in straight-sets to Stevens Institute of Technology

Oswego took second place in the tournament with its 3-1 record over the two days and senior captain Stephanie Bailey was named to the All-Tournament Team.

MATCH ONE – Oswego 3, Hartwick 1:

The Lakers keyed in on defense in their match against the Hawks, blocking 13 Hartwick attempts. Megan Russell led the way with six blocks while Bailey chipped in five, including a team-high two solo blocks. Meaghan Roefs and Kelsey Dillon were close behind with four blocks apiece.

Aiding in the defensive effort were Rachel Ruggaber and Jessica Long, who had 22 and 15 digs, respectively. Linsdey Champitto finished with 11 digs while Rina Qelaj collected nine.

On the offensive side of the ball, Oswego was paced by Long and Emma Moriarty's 11 kills each. Olivia Zimmerman set many of those points, finishing with a team-best 24 assists. Champitto helped with the setting duty, distributing 17 assists.

MATCH TWO – Stevens 3, Oswego 0:

Bailey had a solid match offensively, leading the team with seven kills and an impressive .636 hitting percentage. Dillon spiked five attacks for points and Roefs added four.

Ruggaber had a team-high 10 digs while Champitto and Lauren Edwards each turned in the same amount of assists.

The Lakers will be back in action at 5 p.m. on Friday when they kick off the final SUNYAC Pool Play against Geneseo. Fredonia will host the two-day pool play.
