FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team picked up a crucial 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-10) win over Geneseo at SUNYAC Pool Play hosted by Fredonia on Friday evening. With the victory, Oswego improves to 17-13 overall but, more importantly, 4-3 in the conference. That 4-3 SUNYAC mark puts the Lakers in a three-way tie with Geneseo and Cortland heading into the final day of the conference season.
Oswego will face Fredonia at 10 a.m. followed by New Paltz at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The league's top six teams in the standings after Saturday's matches will make the SUNYAC Championship.
Kelsey Dillon and
Meaghan Roefs helped the Lakers hand the Knights only its fifth loss of the season with 12 kills apiece. Dillon was very efficient in the match as well, hitting at a .545 clip. Senior captain
Stephanie Bailey added 10 kills in the outing while
Hannah Dahlgren chipped in seven.
Helping set up the team's hitters was sophomore
Lauren Edwards, collecting 29 assists on the night.
Olivia Zimmerman aided in the effort, nabbing 13 assists for Oswego.
Edwards was also part of a trio that played a big role defensively, digging 22 balls in the match, just one-shy of
Rachael Ruggaber's team-high 23.
Kim Cassa had the third-most digs for the Lakers, tallying 18.
