OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State volleyball wrapped up SUNYAC Pool Play at Fredonia with a split on Saturday. The Lakers dominated the first match with a three-set sweep against Fredonia, but lost a 3-0 contest to New Paltz. With the win and the loss, Oswego is 18-14 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
That 5-4 record was good for the No. 5 seed in the SUNYAC Championship when the Lakers will face No. 4-seeded Brockport. Oswego and Brockport will play at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at New Paltz as the Hawks earned the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament.
MATCH ONE – Oswego 3, Fredonia 0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-9)
The Lakers cruised past tournament-host Fredonia, needing just three sets to take down the Blue Devils. Sophomore Megahan Roefs led Oswego with 10 kills. Teammate
Stephanie Bailey also chipped in with six of her own.
Sophomore
Lauren Edwards had an impressive outing, collecting a team-high 15 assists and five digs.
Defensively, Rachel Ruggaber and
Olivia Zimmerman made it difficult for Fredonia to muster any sort of momentum. Ruggaber and Zimmerman tallied 26 and 10 digs, respectively.
MATCH TWO – New Paltz 3, Oswego 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-16)
The Lakers lost their afternoon bout 3-0 against the SUNYAC's top seed New Paltz.
Despite the loss,
Kelsey Dillon had a solid performance, recording a team-high five kills.
Rachel Ruggaber paced the Lakers defensively with 10 digs with
Olivia Zimmerman and
Jessica Long contributing with six apiece.
The volleyball team will round out its regular season with a home match against SUNYIT at 12 p.m. next Saturday for Senior Day.
