OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team ended the regular season with a 2-1 victory against SUNY Canton at Laker Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon. Prior to the contest, the Lakers honored their seven graduating teammates:
Zack Saccocio,
Rob Dezendorf,
Greg Rabideau,
Drew Bordash,
Eric Widanka,
Jim Manton and
Michael Fuss.
With the win, Oswego finishes its regular season with a 5-10-2 mark while Canton falls to 9-8-1. The Lakers, who earned the No. 6 seed in the SUNYAC Championship this past Saturday, will now travel to third-seeded Brockport for a 6 p.m. postseason matchup on Saturday.
In the 70th minute,
Connor Lunduski scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from
Bojan Toplavic. Toplavic sent a cross to his teammate and Lunduski ripped the shot from the 18-yard box past the Kangaroos' keeper to grab a 2-1 Laker advantage.
The freshman was also involved in the Lakers' first goal of the game as well. After subbing in at the 32:56 mark, Lunduski made an immediate impact just minutes later, sending a free kick to
Harrison Rieber at 37:07. Rieber jumped and headed the ball to his left, giving the keeper no chance for a save attempt. The goal gave Oswego a 1-0 edge that would last until the break.
Canton would even the game at one goal apiece in the 61st minute as Abdulai Jagana was the beneficiary of a Hunter Mowery through ball for a score.
Jon Runge started in net for Oswego, playing the first 45 minutes with one save and no goals allowed.
Cody Peck earned his first career win between the pipes, playing the second period with three saves and one goal allowed. The Kangaroos' keeper, Patrick Anunziatta, made four stops in the contest.
