Volleyball Splits on First Day of Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  -- The Oswego State volleyball team was victorious in its first match of the season 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-10) against Blackburn College on Friday afternoon, winning in just 59 minutes, before falling in its nightcap 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 13-25) to Simpson College. Both matches took place at the Colorado College Invitational.

MATCH ONE:

Stephanie Bailey and Jessica Long lead the Lakers with nine kills each while Sarah Meredith had eight and Megan Russell had seven. Long and Meredith also filled the stat sheet with 10 and 12 digs, respectively, just short of Rachel Ruggaber's team-best 13.

Olivia Zimmerman tallied 19 assists with Lauren Edwards adding 14.

MATCH TWO:

Bailey, Hannah Dahlgren and Kelsey Dillon paced the Lakers with nine kills apiece. Despite the loss, Ruggaber had a match-high 22 digs. Meredith and Zimmerman also chipped in with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

Zimmerman also had seven kills, along with a team-high 21 assists. Edwards was just two shy of Zimmerman's assist total, collecting 19 in the match.

The Lakers will be back in action at the Colorado College Invitational at 4 p.m. on Saturday as they take on the University of Minnesota Morris.
