OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team split a two-game series on the first day of the Oswego State Tournament in Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday. Oswego beat its first opponent, Wells College, 3-0 before falling 3-1 to St. Lawrence University.
With a 1-1 record on Friday, the Lakers now hold a 4-7 record on the season.
FIRST MATCH Oswego looked dominant against Wells College, winning the all three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-16) in front of the Lakers' home crowd.
Stephanie Bailey led by example, recording 11 kills for the Lakers.
Lauren Edwards paced the Lakers with 17 assists while
Olivia Zimmerman had an impressive outing, recording 16 assists and 12 digs, both good for second-most for Oswego.
SECOND MATCH Oswego battled tough against St. Lawrence, despite a 3-1 defeat (25-27, 24-26, 25-23, 13-25).
Kelsey Dillon finished the night with an Oswego-best eight kills.
Edwards recorded a team-high 17 assists to match her earlier performance in the day. The Oswego native capped off an impressive outing, as she also totaled nine digs.
Oswego will continue play in the tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday as it hosts Hamilton College. Following the morning match, the Lakers will then meet conference-foe Potsdam at 12 p.m.
