OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's tennis team lost to Oneonta 5-4 in an extremely close match Friday. The team moves to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in the SUNYAC conference.
Kelsey Wilson and
Alli Ullrich kicked off the contest with an 8-6 win at third doubles. The doubles team found themselves down four games to one early, but were able to battle back to secure a key win for the overall team score.
At first doubles,
Lauren Stall and
Alicia Kreamer pushed the match to a stalemate before losing narrowly in the seven-point tie break, 8-6.
In singles, the bottom of the order really showed their resilience.
Haley Miller was winning her singles match before Oneonta's Keri Piccichi was forced to bow out due to injury. At fifth singles,
Jill Travis was able to earn a victory defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-4.
Marie Halpin showed true grit in her match at sixth singles as well. After losing the first set 6-4, she fought back to win the second set 6-4 and force a tie break. In the tie break, Halpin found herself down again, 7-5, but won five-straight points to get the win.
The Lakers will take to the courts again at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Brockport.
