Volleyball Beats Rochester; Falls to Medaille

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team ended day one at the Geneseo Tournament with a 1-1 record. Oswego opened the day with a 3-0 win over the University of Rochester before falling 3-1 to Medaille College in the night cap. With the split, the Lakers are now 7-8 on the season.

MATCH ONE – Oswego 3, Rochester 0 (25-23, 25-17, 28-26):

Oswego cruised against the YellowJackets in the first match, jumping out to an easy 2-0 lead before battling to a 28-26 in the third set to capture the victory. Emma Moriarty lead the Lakers on offense, killing a team-high 10 points. Kelsey Dillon was right behind Moriarty with eight kills, hitting at a .333 clip. Dillon also added two block solos while Hannah Dahlgren paced the team with three.

Olivia Zimmerman notched 19 assists in the contest and collected 13 digs. Kim Cassa matched Zimmerman's dig total while Rachel Ruggaber had a team-best 26 digs. Lauren Edwards was consistent on both sides of the ball, finishing with 10 digs and 10 assists.

MATCH TWO – Medaille 3, Oswego 1 (21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 18-25):

The Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Mavericks but were unable to keep the momentum, dropping the matches final three sets in the loss.
Stephanie Bailey had an Oswego-high three blocks against Medaille, all of the solo variety, and added eight kills. Bailey's eight kills trailed only Dillon and Jessica Long's team-best nine.

Edwards took the lead in assisting in the final match of the day, helping on 19 Laker points. Lindsey Champitto split the duty with Edwards, finishing with 17 assists. Ruggaber tied for the game-high with 21 digs while Cassa chipped in 14.

Oswego will complete the tournament on Saturday, starting with SUNY Canton at 10 a.m. and wrapping up with Hilbert College at 12 p.m.
