OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State women's tennis team captured a victory against St. John Fisher College, winning 6-2. With the win, the team's record improves to 3-5 on the year.
The squad had a tremendous start, winning all three of their doubles matches.
Lauren Stall and
Alicia Kreamer had to battle at first but ended up securing the win 9-7.
Haley Miller and
Jill Travis nabbed a win at second (8-6) and
Kelsey Wilson and
Alli Ullrich found success at third winning 8-5.
The Lakers used the momentum from the doubles matches to fuel their singles. Kreamer played a close first set at second singles, narrowly winning 6-4 before dominating the second set 6-1. Miller sailed to a quick win at fourth, defeating Fisher's Alissa Cornacchia 6-2, 6-2.
At sixth singles,
Marie Halpin found herself in a close contest with Eileen Flemming of Fisher. Halpin took the first set 6-4 and was pushed to the brink in the second set winning 7-6, 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Women's tennis returns to the courts tomorrow at 1 p.m. for an away bout against SUNYAC opponent Fredonia.
