Men's Soccer Ends Double OT in 1-1 Tie

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team took a 1-1 double overtime tie at New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. With the stalemate, the Lakers are now 1-6-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference action while the Hawks go to 3-5-1, 0-1-1.

New Paltz would strike first in the match with an opening period goal, but Oswego would answer in the second half. Tom Bartyzel was awarded a penalty kick at 63:14 and he capitalized on the opportunity, knocking in his first goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1.

The two teams battled over the final 25 minutes of regulation and an additional 20 minutes in overtime but to no avail as neither squad could notch the game-winner.

For the match, the offensive statistics were similar as Oswego held a slight advantage in both shots (18-17) and shots-on-goal (5-4). The Lakers' on-goal chances were spread throughout the roster as Bartyzel, Alex Sestak, Jim Manton, Eric Widanka and Zack Saccocio each registered an opportunity.

In goal, Todd Lawson manned the Laker net for 110 minutes on Saturday, collecting three saves.

Oswego will be back in action at 3 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Potsdam as part of Alumni Weekend.
