Lakers Take Two Against SUNYAC Opponents

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State volleyball came away with two victories in SUNYAC Pool Play on Saturday at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The squad took the first match 3-1 against Plattsburgh (25-27, 25-14, 25-13, 25-19) followed by a 3-1 win against Buffalo State (21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23). Volleyball's record improves to .500 on the season at 10-10 and 2-1 in SUNYAC play.

FIRST MATCH:
Oswego narrowly lost the first game as Plattsburgh snuck out a 27-25 victory. The Lakers were able to hone in the next set, ending on an 11-4 run to beat the Cardinals 25-14. They carried the momentum into the next two sets defeating the SUNYAC rival 25-13 in the third and 25-20 in the fourth.

Leading the way offensively for the team was Stephanie Bailey, who was able to accumulate 19 kills. Jessica Long also pitched in with 12.

The squad dominated on the defensive side as well. Hannah Dahlgren was a wall at the net, recording two solo blocks to go along with her four block assists. Rachael Ruggaber controlled the backline for the Lakers, collecting 19 digs during the match.
 
SECOND MATCH:
Oswego faltered the first set, losing 25-21 to the Bengals before taking the next three 25-21, 25-22, 25-23.

Kelsey Dillon was a force from the weak side, recording 12 kills in the match. Dillon also was able to assist on three blocks.

Defensively, Ruggaber put in another solid effort with 22 digs for the Lakers. Kim Cassa also contributed to the dig count, registering 12.
 
The team will return to the court at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Keuka College.
