RESULTSOSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's swimming and diving team gave visiting Cortland a tough battle on Wednesday evening, eventually falling just short, 119-117, to the Red Dragons at Laker Pool. Oswego's two-point loss is the best finish the Lakers have had against Cortland since it nearly beat the Red Dragons on Jan. 16, 2007, losing by the same margin, 151-149. With the defeat, the Lakers drop to 4-4 on the year.
Oswego got its first event win of the day from
Austin Nau, who took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.27.
Justin Berrios then added nine points to the squad's score, racking up 243.95 points in the 3-meter dive, nearly 70 points more than his Cortland counterpart.
The Lakers did not have to wait long to nab another first place finish, as
Sanjay Raman grabbed the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.60. Teammate Jacob Mullet's 1:01.35 in the 100-yard breaststroke was good for the win as well, touching the wall almost three-seconds faster than his Red Dragon opponent.
Berrios claimed another diving event in the 1-meter, scoring a 269.35 for a margin of victory of more than 100 points.
Oswego will remain home for its next meet when it hosts fellow SUNYAC institution Geneseo at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
