PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team took a pair of 3-0 victories at SUNYAC Pool Play, hosted by Plattsburgh, on Saturday afternoon. With the wins over Buffalo State and the host Cardinals, the Lakers are 17-7 on the year and, most importantly, 4-2 in conference matches.
MATCH ONE – Oswego 3, Buffalo State 0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-23): Senior
Kim Cassa spiked a team-high 10 kills to help Oswego cruise past the Bengals in a morning tilt. Two sets of duos split assisting and digging responsibilities, starting with junior
Lauren Edwards' 18 helpers followed by classmate
Lindsey Champitto's 14. The passing pair was senior
Rachael Ruggaber, collecting a Laker-best 20 digs, with fellow senior
Mary Montagnola registering 16.
As a team, Oswego collected 10 block assists and three solos, paced by another duo, this time freshmen
Alison Sullivan and
Ariel Murawski. The two ended with four blocks apiece, Sullivan splitting them evenly at two solos and two assists while Murawski had a solo along with three assists. Murawski also tallied the squad's second-most kills with nine.
MATCH TWO – Oswego 3, Plattsburgh 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16): Three Lakers showed an acute offensive prowess against Plattsburgh, all recording double-digit kills. Oswego was shown the way by junior
Emma Moriarty's career-high 15 while Murawski tied a career-mark with 14. Senior
Kelsey Dillon rounded out the trio by chipping in 11.
That group was aided by the setting ability of Champitto and Edwards, who finished with 24 and 23 assists, respectively.
Defensively, nine different Lakers ended with double-digit digs, headed by Ruggaber's team-high 22.
Oswego will put its two-match winning streak on the line at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Clinton, N.Y. to face nonconference foe Hamilton College.
