OSWEGO, N.Y. – A late push from the Oswego State women's soccer team fell just short as the team dropped its contest against Buffalo State 3-2 on Saturday afternoon as the Lakers celebrated Senior Day. With the loss, Oswego moves to 7-5-1 on the year and 2-3-1 in the conference. Buffalo State improves to 10-3-0 overall (5-0-0 in the SUNYAC).
After going down two goals in the first half, the Lakers let an early goal up in the second to increase the Bengals lead to three. It was here Oswego picked up its offense sparked by a goal from freshman
Audrey Burbidge in the 55th minute.
Alexa Restante sent a cross in from the right side of the box that connected with Burbidge's head and beat the Buffalo State goalkeeper.
The momentum of the first goal carried throughout the second half as the Lakers were able to notch another just 16:39 later. Restante once again sent a cross into the box that
Jess Graci was able to get a foot on, decreasing the Bengal lead to one. Oswego had an opportunity to tie it up late in the final minutes as junior
Nicole Perniciaro beat the keeper one-on-one but the shot was stopped at the goal line and cleared.
Oswego dominated the second half offensively firing off 13 shots to add to its total of 17 and taking seven corner kicks (11 total).
Senior
Alyssa Glasshagel recorded two saves in 90 minutes of play.
Women's Soccer will return to the pitch at 6 p.m. on Thursday as the team heads to Geneseo to take on the Knights.
