OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Geneseo in overtime at Laker Turf Stadium Friday afternoon. With the loss, Oswego drops to 4-8-1 on the season and 1-6-0 in the conference. Geneseo improves to 7-5-3 overall, 2-6-0 in the SUNYAC.
After a scoreless first half where both teams accumulated only one shot-on-goal, the Lakers and the Knights picked up the intensity. Oswego found a good chance on a set piece from just inside its offensive zone taken by
Mitch Brickman late in the half, but the ball sailed just clear of the crossbar. Once again, through 45 minutes of play neither side could tally a mark on the scoreboard.
In overtime, both teams found opportunities in the early goings. First was Oswego, as
Matt Massenzio sent a ball from his defensive half to a wide open
Bernard Osei. Osei was one-on-one with the goalie but the keeper was able to get a hand on the shot, deflecting it wide. Geneseo was able to seal the victory with 4:01 left in the overtime period as the Knights capitalized in almost a mirror image of the Lakers chance.
Senior keeper
Todd Lawson played all 95:59 minutes in net for Oswego, racking up four saves on the day.
Men's soccer will have a chance at another SUNYAC opponent at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Brockport at Laker Turf Stadium.
