GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team nabbed two wins during the Geneseo SUNYAC Pool Play Saturday morning, defeating Geneseo 3-2 before taking down Potsdam 3-0. With the win, the Lakers improve to 21-9 overall and 7-2 in the SUNYAC. The win also secures Oswego's place as the three seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Championship.
The Lakers found themselves in a hole early, dropping the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. In the next two though, Oswego picked up its play defeating the Knights 25-16 in both. A key four-point service run from Lindsay Champitto helped the Lakers seal the fifth set victory 15-11.
Megan Russell,
Ariel Murawski and
Kim Cassa all finished with double-digit kills, while
Lauren Edwards and Champitto. split setting duties, nabbing 25 and 20, respectively.
Oswego had an easier time against Potsdam in the second match of the day, beating in the Bears in straight sets 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.
Emma Moriarty led the Lakers with nine kills, followed closely by Russell who notched eight. Edwards nabbed the most helpers in the game, collecting a total of 19.
Racheal Ruggaber manned the backline for Oswego, recording a team-leading 18 between the two matches.
Volleyball returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday as the Lakers welcome Alfred University to Max Ziel Gymnasium for the team's final regular-season home match. Oswego will also be celebrating Senior Day that match, honoring the four seniors on the roster.
