Volleyball Sweeps Final Day of Regular Season

UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team swept the SUNY Poly Triangular on Saturday, downing the College of New Rochelle and the host Wildcats. With the final two regular season games in the books, Oswego holds a 24-9 mark heading into next weekend's SUNYAC Championship. The Lakers, who earned the No. 3 seed to the tournament, will face No. 6 Fredonia at 4 p.m. on Friday. All SUNYAC Championship games will be held at No. 1 seed Brockport's facilities.

MATCH ONE – Oswego 3, New Rochelle 0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-16):

In a straight-sets win over the Blue Angels, freshman Ariel Murawski paced the squad with 12 kills and one block. Junior Megan Russell followed suit with 10 kills and a team-high two blocks.

Fellow junior Lauren Edwards led the Lakers in both assists (22) and digs (20) while Rina Qelaj dug 15 New Rochelle attempts.

MATCH TWO – Oswego 3, SUNY Poly 2 (25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 15-9):

Murawski was brilliant in the nightcap, as the outside hitter recorded a career-high 19 kills at a .391 clip to help the Lakers win a match that went the distance. The first-year standout also blocked five attacks, second to only Russell's seven. Russell was also impressive on offense, recording 14 kills. Rounding out Oswego's players with double-figure kills was Emma Moriarty and Kelsey Dillon, who finished with 11 and 10, respectively.

Edwards again took the lead with 23 assists while classmate Lindsey Champitto chipped in 21. Senior Mary Montagnola finished with a team-best 23 digs, followed by Edwards' 18 and a pair of 11 digs from Moriarty and senior Kim Cassa.

Moriarty, Dillon and freshman Alison Sullivan each had multiple blocks in the contest. Dillon had three off a solo and two assists while Moriarty and Sullivan had one of each.
