OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team played Fredonia to a 0-0 draw Friday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field. The Lakers move to 7-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the conference. Fredonia goes to 2-9-1 overall (0-2-2 SUNYAC).
In a game where the Lakers outshot the Blue Devils 19-11, Oswego just couldn't find the back of the net. One opportunity for the team to take the lead came midway through the first half as
Emma Geyer headed a ball to
Audrey Burbidge at the top of the 18 who in turn sent a pass to
Alexa Restante in the box. Restante beat the keeper but the goal was ultimately called back on an offside call.
Nicole Perniciaro had a one-on-one chance with the goalie in the final seconds in regulation but her shot was stopped by the charging Fredonia keeper.
As the game went into overtime, and eventually double overtime, the Lakers found themselves with another chance to break the tie. Geyer sent a pass to a streaking Perniciaro, who tried a pass across the mouth of the goal to Restante. The pass would have been an easy tap in for the sophomore but a Blue Devil defender was able to intercept the pass and boot, thwarting the effort.
The Lakers spent a majority of the time in Fredonia's half, accumulating 14 corner kicks, compared to Blue Devils one.
Melissa Siegfried played all 110 minutes between the pipes for Oswego, recording six saves in the process.
Women's soccer will return to the pitch at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts the Buffalo State Bengals for its final regular-season home game. The team will also be recognizing its seniors for Senior Day.
