ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State wrestling team dropped its first dual of the year 23-15 to host Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. With the meet being each squads' first of the year, the Lakers are now 0-1 while the Tigers go to 1-0.
Oswego got off to a hot start as junior
Jacob Yankloski earned a 7-3 decision in the 125-pound weight class. Following a loss at 133, the Lakers picked up another victory as 141-pound
Israel Segarra defeated RIT's Cole Murphy with an 8-5 decision.
The Tigers then strung together wins in three-straight bouts before the Lakers'
Troy Seymour snapped the streak. Seymour grappled his way to a two-point decision, 5-3, over Joe Cutugno in the 174-pound matchup. Oswego's final win of the day came from freshman
Daniel Smith, as the 197-pounder dominated his counterpart on the way to a fall at 3:36.
Oswego will return to the mats at 9 a.m. next Sunday when it heads to the 47th Annual New York State Collegiate Championships, hosted by Cornell University.
