UTICA, N.Y. - Two third period goals help the Oswego State women's hockey team earn a 2-2 draw against Utica on the road Sunday afternoon. With the tie, the Lakers move to 2-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the ECAC West. Utica goes to 5-0-1 on the year and 3-0-1 in the conference.
The Lakers allowed two goals in the first period and the Pioneers held on to the lead until midway through the third stanza. It was there that Oswego found its offense, scoring two goals in a matter of 4:46.
Olivia Ellis found the back of the net first at the 9:35 mark, with
Alexa Aramburu and
Andrea Noss credited with the helpers. That same line seemed to find its way as on its next shift, it notched the game-tying goal. This time though, Aramburu got the goal on the score sheet, while her fellow linemates each took home an assist.
In the overtime period, the teams found themselves in a bit of a stalemate until the final ticks of the clock when a Utica forward found herself on a breakaway.
Mariah Madrigal came up big for the Lakers though, cutting down the angle and stopping the opportunity.
Madrigal played all 65 minutes for Oswego, making a career-high 31 saves in the process.
Women's ice hockey returns to the ice at 7 p.m. on Friday as the team heads to Potsdam to take on the Bears.
