CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State wrestling team took a tough 43-3 loss at the hands of No. 28 Cortland on the road Sunday afternoon. Oswego's loss drops its record to 2-11 on the season while the Red Dragons improve to 9-3.
Tyler Silverthorn continued his late surge in the 157-pound weight class, making it four-straight wins in his last four duals. Silverthorn defeated Mike Beckwith in a 10-7 decision to earn the Lakers their three team points.
He was down 5-0 before getting a reversal late in first period to cut the deficit to 5-2. Silverthorn then had an early escape in the second to make it 5-3 before tying it at 5-5 with takedown with 1:48 left in that period. He then got a near fall to go up 8-5 and led 8-6 after two periods. The Watertown native finished scoring with takedown with 15 seconds left in the match. Silverthorn, a freshman, is now 16-10 on the year.

Jonathan Ptacek lost an 8-6 bout at 133 against Cortland's Paul Fields.
Oswego will closeout its regular season at 12 p.m. on Sunday when it travels to Middletown, Conn. for the Wesleyan University Quad.
