Lakers Split a Doubleheader with Allegheny

WINTERHAVEN, Fla -- The Oswego State baseball team split a doubleheader Wednesday with the Allegheny Gators at Chain of Lakes Park.

Game One: Oswego 7, Allegheny 0

The Lakers scored five in the bottom of the third to distance themselves from the Gators; Allegheny was unable to recover.

John Rauseo got the scoring started with a single that drove in Matt Capobianco.Myles Kutscher and Eli Holton also added singles in the inning, both driving in two. Rauseo, Dan Saccocio, Kutscher and Eric Hamilton all scored a run.

Kyle Simmons added a run in the sixth with an RBI single to right field;Giller scored on the play. Also in the sixth inning, Saccocio walked and brought home Kyle Liner to add an insurance run.

Eight of nine starters recorded a hit in the outing. Oswego also earned four walks.

John-Michael Guarino pitched strong in the start. The sophomore went three innings and allowed just two hits and no runs to pick up his second win of the season.

Andy Stuart came in to relieve Guarino and three solid innings allowing one hit. He did not surrender a run.

Mickey Putillo shut down the Gators in the seventh inning. He pitched a dominant final inning allowing no baserunners and striking out one.

 

Game Two: Allegheny 6, Oswego 1

The Lakers started the game by loading the bases in the first and second innings.

In the second, Simmons drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center. The flyout scored John Barnes from third base.

Barnes, Giller and Zach Kollar had hits in the contest along with Simmons. Giller also earned two walks in the game.

The Lakers overall earned five walks.

Ryan Brinkman started the game for the Lakers out of the bullpen. The senior pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Brinkman also added a strikeout.

Pat Brown came in to relieve Brinkman and pitched two innings allowing just one earned run.

Oswego will be back in action Friday at 10:30 a.m. for a conference matchup with the Brockport Golden Eagles at Polk State Community College.
