Lakers Sweep Doubleheader With Brockport

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Oswego State Lakers (10-4, 3-0) defeated the Brockport Golden Eagles (6-6, 0-3) in both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Historic Henley Field.

Game One: Oswego 7, Brockport 1 (7 innings)

Similar to Friday's game, Oswego played aggressively to start. The Lakers found their pitches and nabbed a couple of bases in the first few innings.

In the second inning, Robert Donnelly reached on a single with two outs. From there, the freshman stole second base before advancing to third and eventually scoring on two separate errors. Donnelly went 3-for-4 with three singles.

In the first and fourth innings, Eric Hamilton used a base hit to drive in Wes Randall from second. Randall collected a single in each at-bat and proceeded to steal second. Hamilton had two hits and two RBI; Randall went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases.

Oswego continued to be aggressive throughout. After a Myles Kutscher single to right field, Jordan Giller turned a single to left into a double. Giller finished with a double and a stolen base and Kutscher had two hits.

Oswego stole six bases during the game.

The Lakers used a four-run fourth inning to break open the contest. Dan Saccocio laced a double down the line in the inning to drive home Donnelly and Liner. He had a hit and two walks.

Miles Kelly pitched strong behind the offense provided for him. He went a complete seven innings surrendering just eight hits and one run (unearned). The junior starter collected four strikeouts in his second win of the season.

Game Two: Oswego 2, Brockport 1 (9 innings)

Tim Cronin came out of the gates firing strikes in this contest. After allowing two first inning hits, Cronin settled down and retired six straight batters.

Cronin got into a little trouble in the Brockport fifth, but was able to get out of it unscathed thanks to a 3-6-3 double play

Eric Hamilton continued to play well in the second contest after tallying two hits in the first. The third baseman collected two more hits including an RBI single.

Both Eli Holton and Giller contributed in the game. Holton had two hits, Giller earned three.

Cronin pitched eight innings allowing seven hits and one earned (zero earned). The win is his first on the season and the outing brings his ERA down to 2.25.

Mickey Putillo earned the save for the Lakers pitching a scoreless and hitless ninth inning.

The Lakers went 7-3 during their Spring Break trip to Florida. Baseball will return to the field at 3 p.m. on Wednesday as the team travels to Ithaca to take on Ithaca.
