WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- The Oswego State baseball team defeated the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, 5-2, Sunday evening. With the win, the Lakers improve to 11-4 overall and keep their conference-unbeaten streak alive (4-0).
Eric Hamilton started the night for the Lakers with a single in the first inning to drive in Wes Randall from second. Randall ripped a double down the right field line earlier in the inning.
Hamilton recorded four hits during the contest and extended his hitting streak to four games. The sophomore added two more RBI on two singles. Hamilton drove in Randall in the fifth and Dan Saccocio in the ninth inning.
Brendyn Karinchak was absolutely dominant in this outing, recording his third win of the season and improving his ERA to 2.57. He allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out eight Cardinal batters.
After allowing a hit in the first two innings apiece, Karinchak retired 11 straight batters. The senior also struck out the Plattsburgh side in order in the fifth inning.
In the Laker fifth inning, Randall tripled to deep left field to drive in Saccocio. Saccocio reached on an error earlier in the inning; he earned a hit and scored two runs on the evening. Randall tallied two hits and scored two runs to raise his average to .353.
Robert Donnelly doubled and drove in Kyle Liner in the eighth inning for an insurance run. Liner singled through the left side in the prior at-bat.
Jordan Giller, Eric Hamilton and Myles Kutscher each stole a base in the contest.
Mickey Putillo secured the win and earned his second save of the season. The senior reliever pitched a scoreless ninth inning allowing zero hits and striking out one batter.
Oswego returns to action at 1 p.m. on Monday for a doubleheader with Plattsburgh at Honey Field on the campus of Bard College.
