UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team fell 12-6 to Utica College Saturday afternoon on the road. The loss drops the Lakers record to 3-2 on the season. Utica improves to 5-2.
After giving up quick four goals, Oswego was able to settle in and score two before the first quarters end.
Adam Burlew notched his first of the season, followed by a goal from
Connor Khammar who scored with only 37 seconds left in the period.
Oswego came out hot in the second, getting a goal from
Luke Krizman just 1:30 into the stanza. Utica would follow up with two more scores though, increasing its lead to 6-3 with the clock ticking towards halftime. The Lakers were able to make a little headway right before half as
Cody Hoose tallied his second of the season off of a pass from
Nick Giampaolo with only two seconds left.
With Oswego allowing four goals in the third period, the team knew it was an uphill battle going into the fourth.
Matt Palmer and
Tyler Nason each earned one goal but Utica matched that total and the Lakers fell to the Pioneers 12-6.
Despite the loss, Oswego edged Utica in faceoff wins with
Troy Crevier going 10-for-19 and Chase Izyk a perfect 3-for-3.
Giampaolo led the team in ground balls with four, followed closely by Crevier and
Tim Garrett who each recorded three.
Men's lacrosse will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday as the team will play a neutral site game at Fayette-Manlius High School against Oneonta.
