Men's Lacrosse Falls in SUNYAC Opener

MANLIUS, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team fell 12-7 to Oneonta Saturday afternoon at Fayetteville-Manlius High School. With the loss, the Lakers go to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Oneonta improves to 4-4 overall, 1-0 in the SUNYAC.

Oswego controlled the beginning of the game, scoring the contest's first two goals. The first score came from Tyler Nason off a Cody Hoose pass just 4:58 into the game. Connor Khammar then nabbed the Lakers second goal 1:22 later. After three-straight Red Dragon scores, Oswego notched its third as Matt Palmer cashed in his sixth of the season right before the end of the opening period. Oswego would go scoreless in the second period, while allowing two Red Dragons goal and the Lakers would trail 5-3 going into half.

In the third, both Oswego and Oneonta tallied four goals a-piece.  Jimmy Cordon and Nick Giampaolo notched goals early in the quarter while Nason and Khammar recorded their second points at the tail end. The Lakers would be unable to make the comeback in the final period, resulting in a 12-7 defeat from the Red Dragons.

Despite the loss, Oswego led ground ball battle on the field 33-19. Leading the way was Kyle Wistner who recorded a team-high five.

Wyatt Russo tended the net for the Lakers, picking up 10 saves on the day.

Men's lacrosse will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as it takes on Elmira College in a neutral-field contest at Corning Community College.
