HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team defeated Houghton College 18-6 on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers move above .500 (2-1), while the Highlanders remain winless (0-2).
Nine different players recorded a goal during the contest, leading to a rout over the Houghton.
Gemma O'Kane led the way, collecting a career-high five goals, including three in the second half. Following her lead was
Erannan Shattuck and
Emily Lange who each finished the game with three and
Briana Kimble who notched two. Single-goal performances were dialed in from
Dani Cronk,
Mackenzie Kjerstad,
Esther Gabriel,
Gabrielle Thorpe and
Erin Herr.
The flurry of offense was due mostly to Oswego's ability to win 17 of the 25 draws. Gabriel led the way controlling nine for the Lakers, followed by Lange who nabbed three and
Nicole Granteed who secured two.
Angela Ponto started between the pipes for Oswego, recording 10 saves on the day. She also led the team in groundballs with seven and caused turnovers with four.
Women's lacrosse will resume play at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as it hosts Clarkson in its home opener.
