Karinchak Allows One Hit in Laker Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego Lakers baseball team beat the Oneonta Red Dragons, 9-2 Saturday afternoon on another dominant performance from Brendyn Karinchak. With the win, the Lakers improve to 17-5 and 10-1 in the SUNYAC.

Dan Saccocio and Wes Randall began the game with back-to-back singles for Oswego. With runners on first and second, Eric Hamilton laced a single to score Saccocio. Hamilton would advance to second and Randall would score on an error.

After grabbing an early 2-0 lead, Jordan Giller ripped a triple to deep right-center field to drive in Eric Hamilton, stretching the lead to three. Brian Hamilton followed up Giller's triple with a double down the left field line, which scored the runner.

Giller added two more RBI on a double and single in the fifth and sixth innings respectively. Eric Hamilton finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI; Wes Randall had two hits and scored a run on the day.

The four-run first inning is all the Lakers would need. Karinchak took the mound in this contest and controlled the pace throughout. The senior did not allow a hit through 4.2 innings; he would finish with seven strikeouts and allow just one hit over seven innings of work. Karinchak moves to 5-1, with the win, and lowers his ERA to 1.76.

The Lakers continued to pile on the offense in the fourth and sixth innings, adding two runs in each. Kyle Liner tallied an RBI on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Zach Whelan and Giuseppe Carberg both collected the first hits of their collegiate careers in this contest.

Ryan Brinkman and Mike Abrams combined to finish off the last two innings. They allowed just one earned run and struck out two.

The Lakers will return to action against Oneonta for a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon.
