First Inning Woes Lead to Two Losses

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team dropped both of its games Sunday afternoon as the team hosted Buffalo State for a doubleheader. With the losses Oswego moves to 3-11 on the year and 1-7 in the SUNYAC. Buffalo State improves to 11-4 overall, 6-4 in the conference.

GAME 1

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lakers started off slow allowing six runs over the first two innings. Oswego rallied in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to try and make an effort to comeback. The first run was scored when Erin McNeely was able to reach first on an error by the pitcher, thus allowing Ashley Lyman to score. Katie Heselden earn the teams sole RBI a couple batters later, as she singled to drive in Melissa Mulvaney. The Lakers were unable to muster any more runs though and the Bengals took the win in five innings.

Both Heselden and Lyman batted 1.000 on the day, going 2-for-2 and 1-for-1, respectively.

Alexis Nasca got the start for the Lakers, earning one strikeout through two innings. Alexandria Connelly would relieve the junior to start the third. Connelly would later be replaced in the fifth by Heselden.

GAME 2

The Lakers went down early again, giving up three runs in the first inning. The team would then be able to load the bases in the second inning, but were unable to capitalize as the Bengal's right fielder made a nice play on a Tori Trovato hit to close out the inning. After that, Buffalo State was able to accrue five more runs ending the game in five innings.

Jessie Terrano had a solid day at the plate, nabbing two singles while also working a walk. Melissa Mulvaney notched her second double of the year during this game as well.

Lisa O'Callaghan pitched all five innings for the Lakers.

Softball will return to action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday as it travels west for a doubleheader with conference-foe Brockport
