OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team routed Elmira College 19-4 on Senior Day at the South Athletic Field on Thursday evening. With the win, Oswego improves to 6-8 on the season (1-5 SUNYAC). Elmira moves to 2-11 on the year.
The senior ceremoines must have been used as motivation as all three seniors on the Laker squad were able to notch goals against the Soaring Eagles.
Erin Herr recorded hers first, as she received a pass from
Esther Gabriel in the slot, finishing the play at the 25:35 mark. Herr would go on to record two more in the contest. Next senior to tally a goal was
Amanda Hagen, who intercepted a pass from Elmira's goalie in the neutral zone and took it the distance. The goal was fittingly the first of her collegiate career.
Miranda Czechowski was not to be left out though, scoring the Lakers final goal with just 1:25 remaining in the game and completing the senior trifecta.
Aside from the seniors, the Lakers had plenty of other players recording points, including Gabriel who put on a career performance with five goals and three assists. Also fueling the offense was
Emily Lange with three goals,
Erannan Shattuck with two goals and three assists and
Kelsey Henderson with two goals.
Mackenzie Kjerstad and
Gemma O'Kane both put forth one-goal games as well.
Gabriel continued to dominate on all aspects of the score sheet, as she led all players in draw controls (7) and groundballs (8). Lange and Herr contributed as well, each notching two draw controls and two groundballs.
Angela Ponto got the start in net for the Lakers, making two saves and only allowing one goal in 39 minutes of play. She would be relieved by
Bridget Hamlin, who made two saves in the final 21:11.
Women's lacrosse will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as it heads to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles.
