Lakers Fall Short in Tale of Two Halves

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team fell 15-10 to Potsdam Tuesday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. With the loss, the Lakers season has concluded, leaving the team with a 6-10 record and 1-7 in the SUNYAC. Potsdam leaves with a 5-10 record, 2-5 in the conference.

It was a tale of two halves for the Lakers, with the first one dominated by Oswego. Gemma O'Kane got herself off to a good start scoring just 51 seconds in off a pass from Erannan Shattuck. Her goal was followed up by a Lindsey Eggers score just 3:15 later. Potsdam would tie it up with two of their own, leaving the teams even a two a-piece with 18:39 left in the half. Over the next 11 minutes, the Lakers would notch six unanswered, led by two from Emily Lange. The Bears squeaked one in before half but, Oswego would take a hefty 8-3 lead into the intermission.

The second half was bit different for the Lakers as the team could not get its offense going. Potsdam scored two to begin the period but Lange answered with her third goal at the 19:47 mark. The Bears made another attempt to come back, scoring two more but that too was put to rest after Gemma O'Kane solidified her hat-trick with 15:14 left in regulation. This would be the Lakers final goal as Potsdam shut down the Laker offense and tallied eight more through the final 15 minutes.

Lange and O'Kane both finished the game with three goals, with the latter earning an assists too.  Also scoring for the Green and Gold was Shattuck, Eggers, Mackenzie Kjerstad and Esther Gabriel who all recorded one.

Gabriel and Lange also led the team in groundballs with five each. They were followed closely by Eggers and Amanda Hagen who scooped up four.

Angela Ponto played the entire game in net for Oswego, saving seven shots on the day.
