OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team fell to St. Lawrence University 2-0 in its opening match of the season Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, Oswego moves to 0-1 on the early season, while the Saints improve to 1-0.
After a back-and-forth match during the first few minutes, the Saints were the first to get on the board. The Lakers kept pace for a while longer but St. Lawrence notched one another before the half, increasing the lead to 2-0.
Early in the second half,
Nicole Perniciaro found herself in alone on the keeper but the goalie managed to get her hands on her shot, saving what would have been the start of a comeback for the Lakers.
Melissa Siegfried started in goal for the Lakers, accumulating seven saves through the 90 minutes.
Women's soccer will return to the pitch at 3 p.m. on Friday as it hosts Pittsburgh-Greensburg at Laker Soccer Field.
