Women's Soccer Falls in First SUNYAC Match

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Oneonta on the road Friday afternoon. With the loss, Oswego remains one game over .500 (4-3) on the season, but drop to 0-1 in the conference. The Red Dragons move to 5-1-1 overall, 1-0-0 in the SUNYAC.

The Lakers were the first to strike, as the team was awarded a penalty kick late in the first half. Sarah Grupp was selected to take it, lining up and firing past the Red Dragon keeper giving Oswego the 1-0 lead with 10:22 left in the first. The Lakers were able to lock it in on defense and take the lead into the locker room.

In the second, Oneonta was able to get an early goal to tie the game up. Both teams exchanged shots on net for the remainder of the period, with Oneonta able to sneak one in with 1:10 left in the clock.

Melissa Siegfried played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Lakers, notching a career-high eight saves on the day.

Women's soccer will return to the pitch at 12 p.m. on Saturday as it heads to nearby New Paltz to take on the Hawks.
