OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's soccer team earned its first win of the season, defeating SUNY Canton 3-1 in the first game of the Oswego State Men's Soccer Tournament at Laker Turf Stadium Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 1-1 (.500) on the year. SUNY Canton falls to 0-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Lakers were the first to put a tally on the board 20:22 into the second.
Bernard Osei stole the ball from a defender, dribbled past another and beat the keeper to give Oswego a 1-0 lead. The Lakers second goal came almost immediately after, as just 23 seconds later Osei found
Nick Zingaro on the left side of the 18-yard box. Zingaro was then able to find the back of the net, increasing the lead to two. One more would be tacked on for the Lakers as
RJ Nichol crossed a ball into the box for an
Andrew Moorman finish with 11:30 left in the half.
Canton would score on a penalty kick late in the second but Oswego thwarted any sort of comeback, taking a 3-1 win into the locker room.
Oswego finished the game with 24 shots, doubling the Kangaroos total.
Todd Lawson played the entire game for the Lakers, accumulating six saves on the day.
The win today puts Oswego into the championship game of the Oswego State Men's Soccer Classic Tournament. The game will be played at 3 p.m. on Saturday against the William Paterson Pioneers.
