Lakers Split on Final Day of Scranton Invite

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Oswego State volleyball team split its matches on the final day at the University of Scranton Invitational. Oswego opened with a 3-1 triumph over Anna Maria College before taking its first loss of the year in a five-set battle with Union College.

MATCH ONE – Oswego 3, Anna Maria 1 (25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 25-19):

Emma Moriarty pumped 10 kills for Oswego, followed by Murawski and Jessica Long's nine. Long also tossed in three service aces along with Lauren Edwards. Edwards' primary role was passing, pacing Oswego with 25 assists. Junior Lindsey Champitto aided the passing effort, chipping in 12 assists.

Edwards was not just a passer, however, tying for the team lead with 10 digs. Long registered 10 digs while Champitto totaled six.

On the blocking front, Moriarty recorded two solos and one assist while Megan Russell assisted on five blocks.

MATCH TWO – Union 3, Oswego 2 (20-25, 25-19, 24-26, 28-26, 15-7):

Oswego built leads twice against Union, taking the first a third sets for 1-0 and 2-1 advantages. Union was able to spoil the Lakers bid to stay unbeaten on the year, taking the decisive fifth set 15-7.

Russell kept up her defensive ways from earlier in the day, finishing with a solo block and three assists. Freshman Alison Sullivan also ended the match with three block assists.

Edwards and Champitto teamed again on the passing duties, evenly splitting 40 assists. Four Lakers had double-digit digs in the tilt, with Rachael Ruggaber taking the team-high with 19. Long had the second-most with 16 while Champitto and Kim Cassa finished with 12 and 11, respectively.

Murawski fnished the tournament as the sole Oswego player to make the All-Tournament Team.

Oswego will return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Rochester, N.Y. to face the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College.
