OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego State women's basketball team fell to Brockport in close fashion, succumbing 56-54 at Max Ziel Gymnasium Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-9 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. The Golden Eagles improve to 6-5 and even their conference record at 2-2.
This contest came down to the final possession after Oswego came back from down six to start the final quarter.
Mary Mazzella led the Laker comeback by nailing two field goals and picking a couple pockets in just the first five minutes to get the score even at 45. The junior guard filled the stat sheet with 11 points, four assists, five boards and two steals on the night.
Zana Dillard and
Courtney Ameele were also crucial for Oswego in the fourth. The pair combined to score 13 of Oswego's 15 points and pull down three boards. For the third time this season Dillard recorded a double-double, securing 19 points and 12 rebounds. She has also collected double-digit rebounds in four-straight contests.
The only other Laker to score on the night was
Alison Nunziato who tallied 14 points on 5-for-13 shooting.
The team will return to play this weekend with a conference-battle against the Plattsburgh Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before hosting the Bears of Potsdam on Saturday.
