OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego State women's basketball team dropped a 50-44 contest to Plattsburgh on Friday evening in Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers record slips to 2-10 and 0-5 in the conference, meanwhile Plattsburgh's records goes to 8-4, 2-3.
Plattsburgh took off in the second quarter, beginning with a 13-2 run before Oswego fought back with six-straight points to get within nine at halftime. In the end though, the run was too much to overcome.
Oswego got close in the minutes just after halftime when it started the third period going 5-for-6 (83%) for a 12-4 run, effectively pulling within one point on two separate occasions. This run was orchestrated by
Tayler Sorell,
Mary Mazzella and
Courtney Ameele, who combined to score the squad's 12 points.
Over the course of the first period, the Lakers and Cardinals traded shots. Oswego was led by
Zana Dillard who did most of the rebounding work toward another double-digit rebounding contest with five boards in the period. The sophomore scored twice down low as well, collecting four points.
Dillard finished with yet another game with more than 10 rebounds; making it the fifth-straight such contest. Her final tally resulted in 18 boards.
Alison Nunziato started out strong making her first basket and the team's first basket of the game and
Monica Harvey nailed the only attempt she took, while clearing one board.
The Lakers will return to the court at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon with another SUNYAC-matchup against their rivals to the north, the Potsdam Bears.
