ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State basketball team opened the new year with a 80-41 loss at Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon in Kidera Gymnasium. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-7 overall while the Golden Flyers improve to 6-2.
In all, nine different Lakers scored in the contest, each recording at least three points. The squad was paced by
Zana Dillard's seven points along with her game-high 11 rebounds. Close behind was
Mary Mazzella with six points while the freshman duo of
Nicole SantaMaria and
Sarah Feminella each tallied five. Feminella and Mazzella were tied for second-most rebounds for the Lakers, both collecting six caroms.
Despite owning an edge in offensive rebounds (17-12), points off turnovers (14-12), second-chance points (15-7) and bench points (21-12), Oswego was unable to overcome a hot start by Nazareth. The Golden Flyers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before pushing its advantage to 20-2 in the first quarter.
Oswego will return to SUNYAC action in its next game, as it travels to Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
