Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Hulshof's Trifecta Sends Oswego to Victory

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team downed host Brockport 5-3 on Saturday night behind Shawn Hulshof's first-career hat trick. Oswego's win, its second-straight, improves the squad's record to 9-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in SUNYAC action. The Golden Eagles are now 8-8-2 and 4-6-2.

Oswego struck early with Hulshof's first of the night at 4:06 of the opening period. Matt Galati assisted on the tally. Brockport would even the score at 13:47 of the same period and the 1-1 tie would last into the first intermission.

The Golden Eagles would take their only lead of the game at 2:03 of the middle period, but Oswego answered right back. Chris Waterstreet found Hulshof just 1:50 later for the equalizer, pulling the game back to even at 2-2.

Captain Chris Raguseo would benefit from Waterstreet's second helper of the night, scoring at 8:12 of the second to regain a Laker advantage. David Ferriera was credited with the secondary assist on the play. Brockport would not buckle, however, making the game a 3-3 tie prior to the final intermission.

The Lakers and Hulshof would not let the contest slip away, as the junior completed the hat trick at 5:48 of the final stanza, with what would prove to be the game-winner. Fellow juniors Galati and Stephen Johnson recorded assists on Oswego's fourth of the night. Kenny Neil would go on to add an insurance goal at the seven-minute mark on a find from Mac Scott.

Oswego owned the shot category in the tilt, holding a 51-30 advantage, peppering the Golden Eagles goaltender for 60 minutes. Matt Zawadzki held strong in net for the Lakers, making 27 saves while allowing the three Brockport tallies. The two teams combined for eight power-play chances, with Oswego going 2-for-4 while the Golden Eagles went 3-for-5.

Men's ice hockey will return to the ice when it hosts Geneseo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena.
