Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Stopped by Nationally-Ranked Knights

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team lost a 3-1 battle to nationally-ranked Geneseo at home on Tuesday night. Oswego drops to 9-7-2 overall with the loss and 6-4-1 in the SUNYAC while No. 11/12 improve to 12-3-3, 6-1-2.

Geneseo stole a goal in the opening period to lead heading into the first intermission. With just 33.1 seconds on the clock, a failed Laker clear gave way to a Trevor Hills one-on-none situation, and the junior found the back of the net.

Oswego answered early in the second period to knot the game at 1-1. Sean Federow corralled a puck that Geneseo was trying to clear from behind its net. Federow skated just inside the blue line and before getting to the middle of the ice, fired a shot that beat the Knights' goaltender low. The tally came just 41 seconds into the second stanza.

Hills would score his second of the night at 12:23 to regain the advantage for Geneseo. RJ Burns threw a centering pass in front of the Laker net where Hills was able to spin and find the upper right corner. The Knights would make it a two-goal edge at 14:47 after Oswego was whistled for hooking. On the power-play, Anthony Marra found David Ripple posting in front of the net. Ripple swung the puck all the way around Matt Zawadzki's pads for the Knights' third of the night.

In the final period, Oswego was awarded a penalty shot after David Ferreira stole the puck for a breakaway. Ferreira could not finish on the play due to a Geneseo hook. On the penalty shot, the sophomore tried to deke the goalie at the last second but the tender was able to stick-poke the puck away.

Zawadzki finished the game with 22 saves. The junior now holds a 4-4-2 record on the season.

Shots were even in the contest, as both teams put 25 on net. On the power-play, Oswego was 0-for-2 while the penalty-kill unit stopped two of Geneseo's three opportunities.

Oswego will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Marano Campus Center Arena when it looks to avenge an early-season loss against the Cortland Red Dragons.
