OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team earned its 10th win of the season, downing Cortland 3-1 at the Marano Campus Center Arena Friday night. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 10-7-2 on the year and more importantly 7-4-1 in the SUNYAC. Cortland moves to 7-9-1 overall and 1-7-2 in the conference.
After a scoreless first period, it was
Brandon Adams who broke the stalemate 7:04 into the second. The goal began as
Mac Scott fired a shot from the blue line that was saved by Cortland's goalie. The rebound was loose though, and
David Ferreira made an acrobatic backhand pass while falling down to Adams who easily shoveled it in.
As the period wound down, Cortland would seize an opportunity, scoring on a two-on-one with 35 seconds left on the clock. The Lakers weren't discouraged though, as just nine seconds later they regained the lead.
Alex Botten won the faceoff back to
JJ Hart following the Red Dragon's goal. Hart then fired a stretch pass to Hulshof who found
Matt Galati streaking into the slot. Galati needed just one second as he fired it over the glove of Cortland's Drew Weigman, taking back the lead for Oswego.
Galati would tack on an insurance goal in the third as he used slick stick handling right in front of the crease to beat the netminder.
Adrian Ignagni got the call in net for the Lakers, stopping 23 shots including a few late in the third as Cortland pulled its goalie.
At the face off dot, Oswego held the 31-22 advantage with 15 wins coming off the stick of
Andrew Barton.
Men's ice hockey returns to action with a 7 p.m. bout at Plattsburgh on Friday.
