Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Shut Out by Defending National Champs

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team fell 7-0 to defending national champion Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the loss, Oswego moves to 9-4-3 on the season and 5-3-3 in the conference. Plattsburgh remains unbeaten, posting a 17-0-0 record (10-0-0 ECAC West).

The Lakers skated with the Cardinals all the way through the first, only allowing Plattsburgh a single goal on a power play. Three minutes into the second though, the top team in the country showed why they were number one, scoring two goals just a minute apart. The Cardinals would tack on two more later in the stanza followed by two in the third to complete the 7-0 shutout.

During the contest, Oswego found a few chances to cut into the lead, but they were stopped by Plattsburgh's Camille Leonard, who earned her 10th shutout of the season.

Tori Trovato started the game for Oswego, making 21 saves in just over 32 minute of play. She would be relieved by Mariah Madrigal who finished with 16 stops

At the face off dot, Oswego stood even with Plattsburgh, controlling 32 of the 61 puck drops.

Women's ice hockey will have a chance to avenge the loss at 3 p.m. on Sunday as the Lakers host the Cardinals for the second game of the two-game series.
