OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team fell 5-0 to Plattsburgh in the final contest of a two-game series at home Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Oswego moves to 9-5-3 on the season and 5-4-3 in the conference. Plattsburgh continues its win streak, improving to 18-0-0 on the year and 11-0-0 in the ECAC West.
The Lakers held the No. 1 team in the country to just two goals through the first 40 minutes. While they didn't see many opportunities through those first two periods, Oswego had two good chances from
Olivia Ellis and
Brianna Rice to start the third. The shots were stopped though and Plattsburgh would add three more insurance goals to close out regulation.
Mariah Madrigal stopped 42 of the 47 shots fired at her during the game, setting a career high.
After allowing a goal on the penalty kill the previous day, the Lakers defensive special teams unit was able to deny the top converting power play team both of its chances today.
Women's ice hockey will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday as the team heads to Buffalo State to take on the conference-rival Bengals.
